NSPCC

I recently applied to be a volunteer for the NSPCC and it turns out the application process is a big one. JustĀ wanting to volunteer isn’t quite enough. I’m through to the next stage which involves a group discussion, some value based questions and a 5minute presentation on a topic of my choosing.

I should mention that the position I’m going for is a ‘Schools Co-ordinator’ where you visit children in schools and deliver a presentation on “Speak Out, Stay Safe’ – a campaign to help children spot the signs of abuse and speak up if they, or someone they know is suffering.

They’re less interested in the specific topic and more keen to see my presentation skills. Am I confident enough, am I engaging, can I get through a 5minute talk without swearing? (I hope to God none of these answers turn out to be ‘no’)

My question is – should I do my presentation on miscarriage? Is it too heavy a topic considering we’re going to be discussing child abuse? (What a fun afternoon for the poor sods that end up delivering their talk on their love of Spice Girls in the 90’s!) Should I make it more personal rather than factual? Give them a presentation onĀ my experience or discuss the issue as a whole? I know I’m probably over-thinking it all but still; any advice would be appreciated!
